The blistering Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman amused everyone with his sensational knock against New Zealand in the rain-hit 35th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. He smashed an unbeaten knock of 126 runs off just 81 balls, hitting 8 fours and 11 massive sixes to help Pakistan win by 21 runs as per the DLS method.

Meanwhile, the former Indian opener and now, the commentator, Virender Sehwag came up with the praising remarks for Fakhar Zaman. Sehwag also questioned the Pakistan management for ignoring the 33-year-old star batter in the five matches and going ahead with Imam-ul-Haq despite of his poor form.

“What an innings by Fakhar Zaman, by far Pakistan’s best batter. Which brains kept him on the bench for the best part of the tournament, God knows. Protein ki bhi kami nahin, jazbe ki bhi (Neither he lacks protein nor the passion),” wrote Sehwag in a recent post on his official X handle (Formerly Twitter).

Here’s a look at the X-post by Virender Sehwag:

Speaking of the action of the match, the Pakistan skipper won the toss and asked New Zealand to bat first; batting first, the Kiwis posted a massive total of 401 runs, thanks to the brilliant knocks played by skipper Kane Williamson and young batter Rachin Ravindra. Williamson and Ravindra played the crucial knocks of 95 and 108 runs, respectively to help New Zealand post a total of 401 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

While chasing the target, Pakistan lost their first wicket very early as in-form opener Abdullah Shafique fell prey to Tim Southee just on the team’s score of 6 runs in the second over. But then came the swashbuckling century scored by Fakhar Zaman (126 off just 81), alongside skipper Babar Azam’s half-century (66 runs, 6 fours and 2 sixes). Pakistan had scored 200 runs for the loss of just 1 wicket in 25.3 overs before the match was called off due to rain.

Eventually, the men in green were declared winners by 21 runs as per the DLS method calculations, keeping their hopes alive in the tournament.
