Senior Men’s selection committee of the Indian Cricket Board announced the squad of India for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. Selectors named the 16-men squad two days back; the biggest highlight of this announcement was that the senior most celebrated duo of regular skipper Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli made a return to India’s T20I squad.

However, the fans and experts were left with a lot of questions after the omission of the star wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan from the T20I squad against Afghanistan. Notably, the Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter was not in action in the recently concluded two-match Test series against South Africa as he opted to withdraw from the series.

In the same line of events, a source close to the Indian Cricket Board came up with a big statement while talking about the possibilities of Ishan Kishan in the Indian squad for the shortest format of the game.

“Ishan wasn't happy that he was travelling without much game time. He is on a break right now and is vacationing. In any case, selectors are in all likelihood looking beyond Kishan. It will be interesting if he is picked for the England Test series where KS Bharat will be back behind the stumps,” said the Indian Cricket Board source to PTI.

Besides that, a former India selector also made a huge claim about the return of the regular skipper Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli to the T20I squad for India.

“Decisions on Rohit and Virat can't solely be taken by the selection committee. There is a lot at stake, broadcasters, sponsors and you can't pick one and drop the other. Ajit and his team needed to maintain a status quo,” said the former selector to PTI on conditions of anonymity.

The three-match T20I series between India and Afghanistan will commence on Thursday, January 11, 2024, with the first T20I at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
