Cricket South Africa made it to the headlines of the cricketing world after they removed the teenage David Teeger from the captaincy of the U19 team; the cricket board came up with this decision just ahead of the upcoming Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup, which is set to commence next week in South Africa.
“As with all such events, CSA has been receiving regular security and risk updates regarding the World Cup. We have been advised that protests related to the war in Gaza can be anticipated at the tournament venues, " CSA said in their official statement.
“We have also been advised that they are likely to focus on the position of the SA Under-19 (SA U19) captain, David Teeger and that there is a risk that they could result in conflict or even violence, including between rival groups of protestors,” the statement reads further.
This decision from Cricket South Africa didn’t go down well with the famous TV host and journalist Piers Morgan. He slammed the cricket board for their decision and blamed them for giving him a punishment for just being Jewish.
“WTF!? Have they sacked him because he’s Jewish? This is shameful moral cowardice by Cricket South Africa,” wrote Piers Morgan in his tweet while charging quite hard over Cricket South Africa.

The hosts took this decision on the grounds of the pro-Israel stance, which he cleared last year on the occasion of the ABSA Jewish Achiever Awards. He was honoured as the Rising Star at this ceremony on October 22 last year. Furthermore, Teeger came up with his pro-Israel opinion in his statement.
“But more importantly, yes, I've been awarded this award, and yes, I am now the rising star, but the true rising stars are the young soldiers in Israel… So, I'd like to dedicate this award to the South African family that married off one son whilst the other is still missing. And I'd like to dedicate it to the state of Israel and every soldier fighting so that we can live and thrive in the diaspora,” said the 19-year-old while receiving the award.
