Former Indian captain Anil Kumble has come up with a big statement while speaking about Team India’s star performers in their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign opener against Australia. Notably, India locked horns with the five-time Champions, Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai on Sunday, October 8.

The men in blue bundled out the Aussies on the score of 199 runs with brilliant bowling in the first innings. The spinners scalped a total of 6 wickets, alongside four wickets picked by the pacers. Later, the Aussies made a brilliant comeback in the second innings but Virat Kohli and KL Rahul stitched a historic and remarkable partnership to help India win by 6 wickets.

Coming back to Anil Kumble, he heaped huge praise on star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for his sensational bowling in the first match against Australia. Apart from that, he also warned the other teams to be careful while facing Jadeja in the upcoming matches against India in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.

“If you do not show any intent against Jadeja, it becomes very tough for a batter. Six out of six times, he will land the ball on that point. On a surface like this, all he did was change the angles. He went close to the stumps, bowled to the right-hander and then went round, slightly wide, and threw that angle in, that is what got Smith out. He was thinking that it would come straight but because of the angle, it beat his outside edge. Brilliant bowling,” said Kumble in a video on ESPNcricinfo.

Shubman Gill set to miss second ODI World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan

Meanwhile, in a blow for Team India, the star young batter Shubman Gill is set to miss the second game of India in the tournament. Rohit Sharma’s side will be going ahead against Afghanistan without having in-form Gill in the playing XI. The 23-year-old couldn’t make it to the playing XI of the first match against Australia due to health reasons.
