There’s a new twist in the debate about the omission of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from the annual central contracts by the Indian Cricket Board. A lot of cricket experts and former cricketers or the fans of the game started discussing if the duo’s absence from their respective teams in the Ranji Trophy 2024 was the reason for their omission from the list of central contracts.

Meanwhile, ESPN Cricinfo’s report states that it was Ishan Kishan who refused to accept the offer from the Indian Cricket Board to play for India in the ongoing five-match Test series against England. This response from Ishan came after the board officials reportedly reached out for the same.

Here's the reported response from Ishan Kishan

“ESPN Cricinfo understands the team management had got in touch with him (Ishan Kishan) during the ongoing Test series against England, but Kishan said he was not ready yet,” read the report by published Cricinfo on their website.

However, there has been a lot of debate since the Indian Cricket Board announced the annual central contracts for 2023-24, which saw the inclusion of some young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and a few others. It was the subtraction of two names, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer that attracted the eyeballs.

A lot of former cricketers came up with divided reactions and responses over the same; some of them pointed towards’ Iyer’s contribution to India in the ODI World Cup 2023. A few other cricket experts said both the players have paid for their indiscipline and unprofessional attitude towards the norms of the national cricket board.

Meanwhile, both players will be eligible for selection in the national cricket team for the upcoming bilateral series or multi-team international tournament but they will not be in a position to avail any of the facilities of the Indian Cricket Board which are given to the contracted players.
