India pacer Mohammed Shami has undergone his surgery successful. But he would need more time to get recover fully. Earlier report stated that Mohammed Shami would has to do surgery in United Kingdom (UK). Mohammed Shami provided his update on his operation and injury through his social media handle.
“Just had a successful heel operation on my Achilles tendon! Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet,” Shami wrote.
Since 2023 ODI World Cup final between India and Australia which was held in Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad Mohammed Shami has been out of action for India team. In World Cup he was the highest wicket-taker has he picked 24 wickets from 7 matches with an average of 10.70.
He also misses the T20I series against Australia and Afghanistan and was unavailable for India’s tour of South and five match Test series against England. In his absence players like Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna got chance to represent India in Test cricket.
Mohammed Shami set to miss 2024 T20 World Cup
As per reports in January, Mohammed Shami was on his way to recovery for the Test series against England, but was not given clearance to fitness.
"My rehabilitation is well on track and the medical experts at NCA are happy with my progress," Shami had told the Times of India.
While due to this surgery Mohammed Shami will miss the entire season of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. In IPL mega auction of 2022 Gujarat Titans picked him for Rs. 6.25 crores. In 2022 he played 16 matches he took 20 wickets for Gujarat Titans as they won their first IPL trophy in the same year. Since then, he has been a important player for his IPL team. All eyes are on his comeback as 2024 T20 World Cup is nearing. The injury may rule him out if the T20 World Cup which will start from 1st June in West Indies and the USA after fives days of IPL 2024.
