Gujarat Titans in trouble as star pacer Mohammed Shami ruled out of IPL 2024

IPL 2024: India fast bowler Mohammed Shami is ruled out for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). Mohammed Shami had an ankle injury on his left leg during the 2023 ODI World Cup and he is going to have surgery.

India fast bowler Mohammed Shami is ruled out for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). Mohammed Shami had an ankle injury on his left leg during the 2023 ODI World Cup and he is going to have surgery. Due to this he is out of action for the Test series against England. He last played for India in 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia in November.

“Shami was in London in last week of January to take special ankle injections and he was told that after three weeks, he can start light running and take it from thereon. But the injection hasn't worked and now the only option left is surgery. He will shortly leave for UK for surgery. IPL seems out of question,” a senior Indian Cricket Board source said on the condition of anonymity.

Mohammed Shami awarded with the Arjuna Award

Mohammed Shami played an important role for India in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Mohammed Shami played 7 matches and took 24 wickets for India. He was the leading wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup. Mohammed Shami got chance to play for India in World Cup due to Hardik Pandya as he got injured during Bangladesh match in Pune. Since then, Mohammed Shami didn’t look back. His career best figure came against New Zealand in semi-final as he picked 7 wickets.

For his bowling heroics Mohammed Shami was awarded the Arjuna Award in January. This news a huge setback for Gujarat Titans has his presence will be missed by them for IPL 2024. In mega auction of IPL 2022 Gujarat Titans bought him for Rs. 6.25 crores. In IPL 2022 he played 16 matches and took 20 wickets for the team. In IPL 2023 Gujarat Titans again showed faith in him and retained him for another season as he played 17 matches and took 28 wickets with an average of 18.64. Again, for IPL 2024 he was retained. Gujarat Titans haven’t announced his replacement till now.

While Mohammed Shami is hopefully back in action against Bangladesh and New Zealand. He must be fully fit for the Australia tour.
