Afghanistan continued their dream run in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 with a third consecutive and overall, fourth win in the tournament, after defeating the Netherlands by 7 wickets. Meanwhile, they have also kept their hopes alive in contention for the semi-finals of the tournament as they have moved to the fifth spot in the points table equaling Australia and New Zealand with eight points each.

Speaking of the action of the match between Afghanistan and Netherlands at the BRSABVE Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, the Dutch skipper Scott Edwards won the toss and decided to bat first. The Afghan bowlers bundled out the Netherlands on a below-par total of 179 runs in 46.3 overs. Sybrand Engelbrecht and Colin Ackermann played the crucial knocks of 58 and 42 runs, respectively for Afghanistan.

The veteran spin all-rounder Mohammad Nabi scalped three wickets for Afghanistan, alongside 1 and 2 wickets picked by Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Noor Ahmed, respectively.

The sheer dominance of Afghanistan in all departments outplay the Netherlands

While chasing the target, star number 3 batter Rahmat Shah shone once again for Afghanistan, scoring 52 runs with 8 fours. His brilliant knock was followed by the match-winning and unbeaten half-century scored by skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi, who once again led the team from the front. Shahidi also stitched an unbeaten 52-run partnership for the fourth wicket with star all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai (31 runs off 28 balls, 3 fours)

On the back of these knocks, Afghanistan comfortably chased down the total in 31.3 overs, scoring 181 runs for the loss of 3 wickets and winning the match by a big margin of 7 wickets. The veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi won the ‘Player of the Match award for his match-defining bowling performance as he claimed 3 wickets at the cost of just 9.3 overs with an outstanding economy rate of 2.94.

Now, Afghanistan will face the in-form Australia in the next match of their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, November 7.
