Adelaide Strikers’ skipper Tahlia McGrath came up with all praise for her side after they managed to defend the title in a low-scoring affair against the Brisbane Heat. Both teams played this match at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Strikers’ captain Tahlia McGrath won the toss and decided to bat first.

The Brisbane bowlers managed to restrict Strikers to the score of 125 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Opener Laura Wolvaardt and skipper Tahlia McGrath played the crucial knocks of 39 and 38 runs, respectively.

Nicola Hancock scalped three wickets for the Heat, alongside one wicket each picked by Georgia Volt and Jess Jonassen. But later in the second innings, Adelaide Strikers on the back of brilliant bowling heroics managed to defend the title and won the match by a very narrow margin of 3 runs to defend the title, which pushed skipper McGrath to heap the praise on her team members for brilliant teamwork.

“I'm going to use my quote from last year because it is the same, that was pretty bloody special. We called it last year. We were sitting in the changerooms, we said we were not done, we wanted to go back-to-back. And we've had that fight, that determination all year. This team is a proper team. There are no individuals, no ego. We know our role,” said McGrath during the post-match presentation.

“We show up, day in, day out and it's a lot of fun playing with this team. Adelaide fans are the best. You guys show up. We were undefeated at home this year because of you guys. We've got a lot of respect for Brisbane Heat. Every time we play them it's a quality game. I'm sure over many years to come we're going to have these unbelievable battles,” she added later.

Amanda-Jade Wellington won the ‘Player of the Match award for her brilliant bowling heroics as she scalped 3 wickets at the cost of just 16 runs, playing a crucial role in Striker’ win in the summit clash of the tournament, against Brisbane Heat
