The hosts India continued their unassailable dominance in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 with the sixth consecutive win in the tournament and that too against the defending champions, England. The men in blue completely outmuscled the Three Lions to emerge victorious by a massive margin of 100 runs to move to the top spot in the points table of the tournament.

England skipper Jos Buttler won the toss and asked Rohit Sharma’s men to bat first. India faced some early blows as they lost their top 3 on the score of just 40 runs. But it was the time when skipper Rohit Sharma and veteran wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul took charge and stitched an all-important partnership of 91 runs for the fourth wicket before KL Rahul was caught by Jonny Bairstow off David Willey on the individual score of 39 runs.

Skipper Sharma played a match-defining knock of 87 runs with 10 fours and 3 sixes; later, India got support from Suryakumar Yadav’s 49-run knock to take the team’s total to 229 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

While chasing the target, the England batters completely surrendered against India’s mighty pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. Bumrah and Shami scalped 3 and 4 wickets, respectively to play a vital role in bundling out England on the score of 129 runs in 34.5 overs; Mohammed Shami shone once again after his five-for in the last match against New Zealand, he scalped 4 wickets at the cost of just 22 runs in 7 overs, including 2 maiden overs. Alongside the Shami-Bumrah duo, the spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav also claimed a total of 3 wickets.

Eventually, Rohit Sharma’s men won the match by a convincing margin of 100 runs to continue their unbeaten winning streak in the ongoing edition of the prestigious cricket quadrennial. Captain Rohit Sharma bagged the ‘Player of the Match award for his match-winning knock in India’s favour.
