Speaking of the action of the match between India and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the Islanders’ skipper Kusal Mendis won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first. Batting first, Rohit Sharma’s men posted a big total of 357 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
Virat Kohli and Shubman played the crucial knocks of 88 and 92 runs, respectively; the duo also stitched an amazing 189-run partnership for the second wicket. Following Kohli-Gill heroics, number 4 batter Shreyas Iyer also played a sensational knock of 82 runs off just 56 balls to help India reach the 350+ total in the first innings.
Later in the second innings, the Indian bowlers completely shattered the Sri Lankan batting attack. The invincible pace trio of Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah ran through the Sri Lankan batting order and bundled them out on the score of just 55 runs in 19.4 overs to hand India a historic win by 302 runs, which is also their biggest win in the history of the ODI World Cup.
