Former Indian skipper and batting legend, Virat Kohli played an iconic and record-extending knock of 117 runs off 113 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes against New Zealand in the first semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2023. He broke two major world records of former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar, surpassing his record for the most number of ODI centuries (49) as it was Kohli’s 50th ODI century. Alongside that, Kohli also broke Sachin’s record of the highest number of runs in a single ODI World Cup edition.
Earlier Sachin had scored 673 runs whereas Kohli has now scored 711 runs in the ongoing edition of the ODI World Cup 2023.
Apart from all this, Kohli also attracted the eyeballs for one of his on-field antics during the first semi-final against New Zealand. It all happened during the drinks break after 30 overs of the first innings when India had scored 214 runs for the loss of one wicket in 30 overs; New Zealand players were having their drinks as benched player Will Young came up with the drinks; meanwhile, Kohli went to Will Young for having drinks in the New Zealand moment.
The video of this moment also went viral over social media as soon as it was shared by a user over X (formerly Twitter).

Speaking of the action of the first semi-final between India and New Zealand, the hosts batted first after winning the toss and posted a big total of 397 runs for the loss of just 4 wickets in the allotted 50 overs courtesy of brilliant centuries from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer.
While chasing the target, Daryl Mitchell scored a well-fought century for New Zealand but it went in vain as Mohammed Shami’s bowling heroics (7-wicket haul) helped India to bundle out New Zealand at the score of 327 runs in 48.5 overs and win the match by 70 runs to enter the final of the ODI World Cup 2023.
