All social media and news headlines were centric for the last 24 hours since chaos erupted during the IPL 2024 auction after Punjab Kings were reported found coming up with a wrong bid during the auction. It all happened when player number 237 was introduced by the auctioneer Mallika Sagar during the auction.
It was the 32-year-old Chhattisgarh batter Shashank Singh who was slotted at the number 237 and his name came again during the accelerated auction after getting unsold during the main set of auctions.
Just a moment after Shashank Singh was sold to Punjab Kings, the co-owner of the franchise Ness Wadia tried to get the attention of Mallika Sagar and to inform her about the wrong name.
“It was a wrong name? You don't want the player?" asked the auctioneer Mallika to PBKS camp after Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta asked for her attention.
"We are talking about Shashank Singh. But the hammer has come down. Player No. 236 and 237 both went to you." Mallika added later.
Franchise clears the confusion with an official social media post
In the same line of events, the franchise Punjab Kings itself came up with a clarification on this confusion over ‘wrong move’ news around Chhattisgarh-based 32-year-old batter Shashank Singh.
“Official Update: Punjab Kings would like to clarify that Shashank Singh was always on our target list. The confusion was due to 2 players of the same name being on the list. We are delighted to have him on board and see him contribute to our success,” wrote the X-post shared by Punjab Kings from their official X handle (formerly Twitter).
