Finally, the Indian Cricket Board came up with a ‘hard and fast line’ stance while taking a big decision regarding the absence of out-of-form internationals from domestic cricket. Two major examples are Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan whose central contracts have been terminated by the Indian Cricket Board for not being available for domestic cricket despite being on ‘off’ from the national team’s duties.
The decision has been taken by the Board secretary considering the recommendations from the selectors. This recommendation came after both players didn’t turn up for their domestic state teams even after a very crystal-clear message from the Board Secretary Jay Shah.
What does this contract termination mean for Iyer and Kishan?
Meanwhile, there is also a question of whether Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan will be eligible for selection in the national team after the termination of their annual central contract. So, the media reports have learned that both the players will be eligible for the selection on the national side considering their performances and appearances in domestic cricket.
“Ishan was granted a break that he sought. However, he hasn’t reported to the NCA or the state unit but continues to train alone. Under the circumstances, there was no chance for the Indian Cricket Board to offer a central contract. Similarly, with Shreyas, we went by the medical reports. The door is still open for them provided they play domestic cricket regularly,” a source close to the matter told the Indian Express.
The omission from the central contracts means that both players will not be able to use Indian Cricket Board facilities; it includes the facilities and use of the National Cricket Academy whenever required. Apart from that, their medical expenses will not be covered by the Indian Cricket Board after the contract termination.
End of Road for Yuzvendra Chahal?
Amidst the hyped discussion on the termination of the contracts of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, there is also a question among the fans which is about the future of the star leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal with Team India as he is not listed in the annual central contracts announced by the Indian Cricket Board. The Haryana spinner has also been missing from the national side for the last couple of months.
Meanwhile, a few media reports have learned that the Indian Cricket Board might consider Chahal in the national side of India after his appearances and performances in domestic cricket apart from the Indian Premier League.
