India are looking in trouble in their ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 campaign opener against Australia after they faced a horrific top-order collapse. While chasing the target of 200 runs in 50 overs given by the five-time World Champions, Australia, India lost three wickets just on the score of 2 runs and all three batters went back to the pavilion without even getting off the mark.

The list of early dismissals included the likes of skipper Rohit Sharma, alongside young opener Ishan Kishan and number four batter Shreyas Iyer. Veteran pacers, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Strac came up with the early strikes in the favour of Aussies. Hazlewood claimed two wickets, alongside one wicket picked by Mitchell Starc.

At the moment, former skipper Virat Kohli is there in the middle, alongside wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul on the other end. Kohli has scored 21 runs so far whereas Rahul is playing on the individual score of 14 runs. India have scored 38 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 12.5 overs during their run-chase of 200 runs.

Earlier in the first innings, the Aussies also faced a middle-order collapse after a crucial partnership of 69 runs for the second wicket between Steve Smith and David Warner. Smith and Warner played the important knocks of 46 and 41, respectively for Australia. Star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ran through the middle order of Australia, including the dismissal of former skipper Steve Smith with a beautiful turning delivery.

Jadeja claimed 3 wickets at the cost of just 28 runs in his quota of overs, including 2 maiden overs. Other than him, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav also bagged two wickets each for India, alongside one wicket each picked by Mohammed Siraj, Hardik Pandya and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Eventually, Australia posted a total of 199 runs after losing their all wickets in 49.3 overs in the first innings.
