Pakistan lose against Bangladesh and Afghanistan (Twitter)

Pakistan didn’t have an expected run in their recently concluded campaign of the men’s cricket competition in the Asian Games 2023. Although they qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament but still failed to secure any medal after facing two consecutive defeats, in the semi-final and the bronze medal match, respectively.

First, they played against Afghanistan in the second semi-final of the men’s cricket competition, where they were asked to bat first by Afghanistan after winning the toss. The men in green were bundled out on the score of 115 runs in 18 overs, including a 20+ run knock played by Omair Yousuf (24 runs off 19 balls). Fareed Ahmad scalped three wickets for Afghanistan, alongside two wickets each picked by Qais Ahmad and Zahir Khan. Apart from this, Gulbadin Naib and Karim Janat also claimed one wicket each.

Pakistan failed to go past Afghanistan and Bangladesh in the knockouts 

While chasing the target, Afghanistan comfortably crossed the line in 17.5 overs, scoring 116 runs for the loss of 6 wickets courtesy of Noor Ali Zadran’s 39 runs off 33 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes with the bat.

Eventually, Pakistan were scheduled to play the bronze medal match against Bangladesh as they lost to India in the first semi-final of the tournament. Pakistan and Bangladesh played the bronze medal match on Saturday, October 7 in Hangzhou where the match was mostly affected by the rain.

Pakistan could score 48 runs for the loss of one wicket in the allotted 5 overs after the rain interruption. Subsequently, the Bangladesh batters chased it down in 5 overs, scoring 65 runs for the loss of 4 wickets as it was the revised target due to the DLS rules. It led to Pakistan’s elimination from the tournament without any medals as Bangladesh bagged the bronze medal on the sidelines of the ongoing gold medal match between India and Afghanistan.
