England and the Netherlands locked horns in the 41st match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Both teams played this match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Wednesday, November 8. England have kept their hopes alive for a qualification in the Champions Trophy 2025 by finishing in the top 7 in the points table of the ongoing ODI World Cup with a 160-run win against the Netherlands.
England skipper Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to bat first; batting first, England lost 6 wickets on the score of 192 runs at one stage. But then came an amazing century scored by the star all-rounder Ben Stokes, who scored 108 runs off 84 balls, hitting 6 fours and as many sixes with the willow.
Other than Stokes, star opener Dawid Malan and lower-order batter Chris Woakes also played the important knocks of 87 and 51 runs, respectively to help England post a big total of 339 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
Pace-bowling all-rounder Bas de Leede scalped 3 wickets for the Netherlands, alongside two wickets each picked by Aryan Dutt and Logan van Beek. Apart from these, the veteran pacer Paul van Meekeren also bagged one scalp.
England bowlers outmuscle Netherlands' batting attack
While chasing the target, the Netherlands could not survive against the England bowling attack; they got bundled out on the score of 179 runs in 37.2 overs. Logan van Beek scored 41 runs, alongside 37 and 38 runs scored by Wesley Barresi and skipper Scott Edwards, respectively. Middle-order batter Sybrand Engelbrecht also scored 33 runs to get Netherlands total to 179.
Star spinners Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid scalped three wickets each for England, alongside 1 and 2 wickets picked by Chris Woakes and David Willey, respectively. Ben Stokes won the ‘Player of the Match award for his match-winning knock.

A comprehensive win by England, even without being flawless. It's a bit late in the day, but, a win is a win and it will help the team:
