Dhoni led CSK to 5th IPL title
Talking about cricket, Dhoni was in action in the Indian Premier League 2023 earlier this year. He guided the Chennai Super Kings to the fifth IPL title win in the history of the tournament. With that win, he joined Rohit Sharma, who has won five IPL trophies as captain for Mumbai Indians, to become the most successful captain in the history of the tournament.
The 42-year-old was also struggling with a knee injury throughout the entire edition of the Indian Premier League 2023. Later on, he went through knee surgery after the conclusion of the tournament. There are also speculations that he might be in action with the Chennai Super Kings for one more season in the Indian Premier League 2024.
Earlier, the CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan had also talked about MS Dhoni and his management of the knee injury during the tournament. "We never asked him things like 'Do you want to play or do you want to sit out.' If he can't, he would've told us straight away. We knew it was a struggle for him to play, but his commitment to the team, his leadership, and how the team benefits everyone knows. From that perspective, you have to appreciate him,” said Viswanathan to ESPNcricinfo.
"Till the final, he never complained about his knee to anybody. Though everyone knew, and you would've seen him struggling while running, he never complained even once. After the final, he said, 'Okay, I'll have surgery.' He's finished his surgery, he's quite happy, he's recovering,” he added later.
