Australia’s tour to Sri Lanka was successfully completed on Monday after Sri Lanka handed over a defeat by an innings and 39 runs to the Aussies in the second Test match at Galle. By the virtue of this win, Sri Lanka levelled the two-match series 1-1 after they lost the first Test by 10 wickets. The tour also saw the Sri Lankas beat Australia for the first time since 1992 at home in an ODI series.
The historic series will leave a golden mark in the annals of the history of cricketing ties between the two countries as the Australian team decided to go ahead with the tour despite the widespread political and economic unrest in the country.
This tour also helped the Sri Lankan cricket board in restabilising their nation’s crippling economy.
As the tour ended, Australian opening batter David Warner wrote a message thanking the Sri Lankan public for hosting them amid the tragic times in their nation.
Warner shared the Sri Lankan flag on his social media handle and wrote a heartfelt message for the fans alongside the picture. “Thank you Sri Lanka for hosting us here during what is an extremely difficult time. We are so grateful to be able to come here and play the game we love and know you all love supporting,” wrote Warner.
“You have opened your arms up to us and we will never forget this trip. What I love about your amazing country is no matter the circumstances you always have a smile on your face and are always so welcoming. Thank you and I can’t wait to one day visit for a holiday with my family.”

The tour began with a three-match T20I series which Australia won by 2-1. The focus then shifted to ODI cricket where the Sri Lankan team took the Aussies by storm as they completed an emphatic series win by a margin of 3-2. The tour played a major role in bringing smiles back on the faces of Sri Lankan people amid the everyday turmoil their country is in.
