The 15th edition of the Asia Cup is going to begin on 27 August 2022 in UAE. All Asian giants will lock horns again to win this prestigious tournament. Meanwhile, India has won it the most number of times (7) so far. Hence, India will look to continue its dominance.

But, other teams also announced a strong squad for them ahead of this big tournament. They will look to give a tough fight to India. However, star players will be in action in this mega event. Global fans will be eager to see them in action from 27 August 2022 in UAE.  

Here are the announced team squads for the Asia Cup 2022     

India

The seven-time winner of this tournament announced a strong squad for this edition of the Asia Cup also. Big names like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul made a comeback. However, they selected four spinners in the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravi Bishnoi. Rohit Sharma will lead the team.

In the middle-order batting line-up, India will depend on Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), and Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), and Hardik Pandya. In the space department, India will bank on Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Avesh Khan. Meanwhile, India kept Axar Patel, Deepak Chahar, and Shreyas Iyer as backups. This team only will miss the services of Jasprit Bumrah due to his back injury.   

Pakistan

Babar Azam will lead the team of Pakistan in this year’s Asia Cup. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board showed its faith in veteran batters like Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, and Mohammad Rizwan. In the bowling department, Pakistan selected Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, and Shahnawaz Dahani.

Speaking of spinners, Pakistan selected Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, and Usman Qadir. For the finisher role, they opted for Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, and Asif Ali. Meanwhile, Pakistan will also miss their prime fast bowler Shaheen Afridi due to his knee injury. 

Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced Shakib al Hasan as their captain once again for the Asia Cup 2022. As specialist batters, they focused on Anamul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, and Mahmudullah. Apart from them, Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, and Nasum Ahmed made to the final squad.

However, Sabbir Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Ebadot Hossain will look to play in the upcoming event for their country. Parvez Hossain Emon, Nurul Hasan Sohan, and Taskin Ahmed also managed to get a ticket for this upcoming Asia Cup.    

Sri Lanka

This country is the official host for this 15th edition of the Asia Cup. However, due to some issues in their country, the tournament got shifted to UAE. Dasun Shanaka will lead the country as Dinesh Chandimal made a comeback in the shortest format of the game for Sri Lanka. Other batters are Dhanushaka Gunathilaka, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Charith Asalanka, Banuka Rajapaksha, Ashen Bandara, and Dhananjaya de Silva.

In the spinning department, Wanidu Hasaranga, Mahesh Theekshana, Jeffery Vandersay, and Praveen Jayawickrema will look to manage the workload. Apart from them, Dushmantha Chameera, Chamika Karunaratne, Dilshan Madushanka, Matheesha Pathirana, Dinesh Chandimal, and Nuwanindu Fernando got selected. Notably, both Binura Fernando and Kasun Rajitha got selected earlier. But, they will miss as they sustained injuries in the SLC Invitational T20 League 2022.

Afghanistan

Mohammad Nabi will lead the Afghan side. While Najibullah Zadran will be his deputy. Others were Afsar Zazai (WK), Azmatullah Omarzai, Farid Ahmad Malik, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Hashmatullah Shahidi, and Hazratullah Zazai. Rashid Khan will lead the bowling unit again.

Other players were Ibrahim Zadran, Karim Janat, Mujib ur Rahman, Najibullah Zadran, Naveen ul Haq, Noor Ahmad, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), and Samiullah Shinwari. However, they added three more players as reserves. Those were Nijat Masoud, Qais Ahmad, and Sharafuddin Ashraf.
