The young Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana stunned everyone with his sensational outings while playing for Chennai Super Kings in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League 2023. He played a crucial role in CSK’s journey to the title triumph throughout the entire tournament. Pathirana was one of the key bowlers, skipper MS Dhoni trusted the most when it was required in the death overs.
Apart from that, the youngster has joined the national squad of Sri Lanka ahead of the bilateral series. Notably, Pathirana is likely to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against Afghanistan.

Speaking of his performances in the Indian Premier League 2023, Pathirana scalped 19 wickets in 12 innings of the 12 matches, he played for the Super Kings in the tournament. He scalped wickets with a fair average of 19.53 including the best figures of 3/15. Interestingly, he had also played the IPL last year when he could appear only in 2 innings and scalped just 2 wickets.
Talking about the upcoming series between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, the three-match ODI series will start tomorrow the 2nd of June from 10.00 am with the first ODI at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.
After the end of this home ODI series against Afghanistan, Sri Lanka will start their campaign, in the Global Qualifier for the World Cup 2023. The Dasun Shanaka-led side will play their first match against UAE in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
