India vs Sri Lanka

The Rohit Sharma-led Team India have qualified for the final of the final of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 after defeating Sri Lanka by 41 runs in their second super-4 match of the tournament. India won the flip of the coin and decided to bat first at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo; they got a strong start of 80 runs for the first wicket from the opening pair of the skipper Sharma and his young mate Shubman Gill.

Rohit Sharma scored a crucial half-century and contributed with 53 runs, including 7 fours and 2 sixes with the bat. Other than him, most of the Indian batters looked struggling against the spin attack of Sri Lanka except for the contribution of 33 and 39 runs from the middle-order batters, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul.

However, India managed to post a fighting total of 213 runs after losing all the wickets in 49.1 overs. All 10 wickets of India were scalped by the spinners of Sri Lanka as Dunith Wellalage claimed a five-wicket haul, alongside 1 and 4 wickets picked by Maheesh Theekshana and Charith Asalanka.

While chasing the target, the hosts kept losing wickets at regular intervals except for the 63-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Dhananjaya de Silva and Dunith Wellalage. De Silva and Wellalage played the crucial knocks of 41 and 42 runs, respectively. But just after the dismissal of De Silva, Sri Lanka faced a collapse once again in the lower order and started losing the wickets.

Eventually, the hosts got bundled up on the score of 172 runs in 41.3 overs and lost the match by 41 runs. It is the second consecutive win for India in the Super-4 match on the successive after they defeated the arch-rivals in their first Super-4 match on the reserve day.

Sri Lanka’s Dunith Wellalage won the ‘Player of the Match award for his brilliant all-round despite ending on the wrong side of the match. Firstly, he scalped 5 wickets with the ball and took 2 catches followed by the knock of 42 runs in the second innings for his side.

Kuldeep Yadav shone for India once again and scalped four wickets, alongside two wickets each picked by Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Siraj also claimed one wicket each.
