Team India are currently busy playing the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. However, on 30 October, South Africa managed to defeat them by five wickets. So, as of now, India have won two games out of three in the tournament. But, fans have raised questions regarding the selection of veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik.
Karthik has failed to showcase his abilities while batting down the order in whatever opportunity he had. Even, against the Proteas, he scored only six runs off 15 balls. So, after that loss, former Indian batter Virender Sehwag raised questions about the selection of this keeper in the playing XIs.
“When did Dinesh Karthik last play in Australia? This isn't a Bangalore wicket.” - Virender Sehwag
While speaking during the post-match show on Cricbuzz, Sehwag said that India need to make changes to their plans in the next matches. Against the Proteas, Dinesh Karthik left the field with five overs remaining of the match due to some difficulty in his lower back. Then, Rishabh Pant did the wicketkeeping duties in his absence.
Virender Sehwag said: “This should have been the case from the first day. Pant has played Tests and ODIs there and has performed. When did Dinesh Karthik last play in Australia? This isn't a Bangalore wicket. I said this even today that Pant should've been in the team instead of Hooda, Pant has the experience of playing here. His Gabba inning is a legend.”
He also added that he can only give suggestions. The Team management needs to take the right decisions. “I can only give them suggestions, it's the management's decision. If Karthik is fit, they will go back to him again. But according to me, Rishabh Pant should've been in the XI from the start.” Virender Sehwag concluded. Speaking about the match against South Africa, India scored 133 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. Dinesh Karthik only managed six runs. In reply, the Proteas managed to chase it down in just 19.4 overs with five wickets in their hands.
