Virat Kohli was back to his blistering best as he notched up his sixth hundred in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad. The match-winning knock by Kohli was his first ton in the league after nearly four years. Kohli was batting on a different level and he struck this crucial knock in a must-win against SRH in the race for the play-offs.
After Heinrich Klaasen’s brilliant knock of 104 propelled Sunrisers Hyderabad to a massive score of 186 in their 20 overs. The pressure was on the RCB batters to prove their skill and take the side home in the chase. The second innings saw more scoring as Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis quickly reached their top speed. The two combined for a powerful 172-run opening stand. With a blistering 100 from 63 balls, which included 12 fours plus 4 sixes, Kohli recovered his form. In just 46 deliveries, Du Plessis struck 71 runs, including seven fours and two sixes.
The SRH bowling squad was constantly under attack. Despite the challenging pitch, they kept their guard down while they scored runs for their team. Despite playing some outstanding cricket, Kohli was unable to put the game away as he might have liked. In a key game for their team, Maxwell and Bracewell made sure they crossed the finishing line with ease.
