The 22-year-old Shubhman Gill has been in excellent form, of late, scoring hundreds in all three forms this season, and his most recent first-ever IPL century versus Sunrisers Hyderabad was just the cherry on top. With his reliable performances, the gifted batsman has nearly secured his spot in all three forms of Indian cricket.

Shubman Gill, the teenage batting star, has the potential to overtake Virat Kohli as well as Sachin Tendulkar as the next great thing in Indian cricket, according to former India opener Robin Uthappa. Uthappa, who took home the Orange Cap in the IPL 2014, praised Shubman because of his recent prowess with Gujarat Titans as well as the Indian team and predicted that he will go far in the future.

Robin Uthappa makes bold claims regarding youngster Shubman Gill

Uthappa spoke to Jio Cinema about the current form of Gill and how he can be as great as Indian batting maestros Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar.

He said, “I definitely see him having the potential of becoming someone as big as Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar. I certainly think he has got the stuff. He is a phenomenal player who is in exceptional form and is playing some exceptional cricket at the moment.”

Uthappa then spoke about how the Indian team management and the Indian team selectors will not choose the break-out stars of the current edition of the IPL. He said,

“From my experience with the Indian team, I feel they will continue with the experienced players because making wholesale changes this close to the World Cup is not wise. And I think form is temporary. Having said that, I feel post the World Cup we might see wholesale changes. Yes, there are a few injury concerns which needs to be addressed. We are already missing Bumrah and I hope he gets fit before the World Cup. Then you have KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant out and these are areas of concern I feel. I hope we put out a fit team and give ourselves the best chance to win the World Cup.”
