India's opening batter Shubman Gill had a great series with the bat in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. In the series, he amassed 205 runs at an average of 102.50 and hit two fifties. The right-hander might have gotten to his maiden century if not for the rain in the third game. These performances have him a place in the ODI squad for the tour of Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, in a candid interview with Hindustan Times, he spoke about being competitive is a part of him being a sportsperson. He also revealed that he gets competitive while playing Ludo. “I am a sportsperson, so it comes with the territory. I have to be competitive. Even when I am playing Ludo, I have to win it, I am extremely competitive,” he says.

“That’s also partly because all my friends are equally as competitive. They say you become what you are surrounded with, so I guess part of my competitiveness also comes from the fact that the majority of people in my life are also like that!”, he jokes.

Letting rumours affect you is pointless: Shubman Gill

There was a time when he was rumoured to be dating Sachin Tendulkar's daughter Sara. Reacting to that, the 2018 U19 World Cup winner said that the rumour used to affect him. Now, he claims that he doesn't get affected by it at all as he feels it is pointless.

“I know one thing that people will forever keep talking so it is pointless to let it affect you. Yes, it did affect me at the beginning, but now I don’t let it affect me or my game, over the last one year or so. People who are not in my life, their opinion doesn’t affect me. Now, when I see a troll I actually feel sad for them,” says Gill, who is excited about the upcoming tour to Zimbabwe.

Gill might feature in the playing XI for India in the Zimbabwe series starting on August 18.
