Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders locked horns in the 28th game of the ongoing CPL 2022. This was a must-win game for both teams as the race for the playoffs has been intense in the last few days. Not to forget, this was TKR's last league of the tournament. In the must-win game, the four-time winners (TKR) won the toss and elected to field first.

Chandrapaul Hemraj (4) was trapped lbw by Ravi Rampaul first up in the second over. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Shai Hope stitched a partnership of 50 runs before the latter got out to Samit Patel. Gurbaz scored 60 off 42 balls including six sixes before being caught at deep square leg by Khary Pierre off Daryl Dupavilion. Sunil Narine took his 100th CPL wicket in the form of Shakib Al Hasan.

Cameos from skipper Shimron Hetmyer (23* off 14) and Odean Smith (22* off seven) helped their side score 173/6. This was a competitive total given what was riding on the game.

Trinbago Knight Riders failed to chase down the total

In reply, the Trinidad and Tobago-based side started steadily as openers, Tim Siefert and Colin Munro stitched a partnership of 32 runs in 4.4 overs. The former was trapped lbw by Shakib Al Hasan after scoring 13. Munro (30) got start but couldn't convert it into a big total. Skipper Nicholas Pooran (1) followed next in the 11th over as Shakib ran him out. Samit Patel (34) also got a start but failed to make it.

This proved to be a turning point in the game for the former champions. After this, what followed was regular wicket which meant that the required run-rate keep increasing and started going out of the reach. They played out their full qouta of 20 overs before being bowled for 136 runs. They lost the game by 37. This also meant that the Knight Riders are being knocked out of the playoffs race. For the first time in the history of CPL, Trinbago won't be playing in the playoffs.
