In this listicle, we will discuss five such players.
Five players who will miss ODI World Cup 2023
1. Rishabh Pant
On December 30 last year, the former India U19 player had a near-death accident. Since then, he has been missing the game. The nature of his injuries meant that he would have been ruled out of the upcoming anyway. For the first few months, Pant didn't come out of his hospital bed. In the last few months, he has been focusing on his fitness and recovery. The left-hander is expected to make a comeback in January next year.
2. Michael Bracewell
The New Zealand bowling all-rounder got injured during this year's T20 Blast, England's domestic T20 tournament. He injured his right Achilles while playing for Worcestershire, the west-midlands-based side. As seen with Josh Hazlewood, when he sustained the same injury, it will take some time for the New Zealand player to recover.
3. Naseem Shah
The Pakistani pacer has been a pillar of strength for his side since playing white-ball cricket last August. Alongside Shaheen Afridi, Shah takes the new ball and does the job more often than not. Meanwhile, during the Super Four game against India in the Asia Cup 2023, his shoulder injury, which he has been carrying since the Lanka Premier League 2023, got worse. It is said that he might also miss the Australia tour next January.
4. Ashton Agar
The Australia left-arm spinner was ruled out of the T20I series against South Africa due to a calf injury. Even though he played a few games against South Africa but missed the next few against the Proteas and India. Meanwhile, he has been replaced by Marnus Labuschagne, who proved his mettle against India and South Africa.
5. Anrich Nortje
Once again the South Africa pacer will miss an ODI World Cup game, having played two T20 World Cups (2021 and 2022). He sustained a back injury during the home series against Australia a couple of months back. Given the nature of this injury, Nortje won't play in the 2023 WC. He also missed the 2019 edition due to injury.
