There is something about Tennis that enamours all sportspeople and fans alike. Players like Pete Sampras, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic have shown grit and determination on the court that every person wants to emulate and bring into their own lives.

There is one Tennis player that enjoys popularity and respect like no other. Roger Federer is arguably the greatest tennis player not just in terms of on-court performances but also in how carries himself off the field. The sporting fraternity received a huge shock when the 41-year-old announced his retirement from the game on Thursday 15th September 2022.

The Swiss player took to social media and announced his retirement in an 845 world statement. In his announcement, he talked of his journey and the people who helped him achieve it. He however also insisted on the need for retirement as his body would not be capable of competing at the top level and so he must bid adieu to the game.

Federer wrote, "As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries.”

"I've worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body's capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear. I am 41 years old, said the Swiss player.

"I have played more than 1,500 matches over 24 years. Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now I must recognise when it's time to end my competitive career. The Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event. I will play more tennis in the future, of course, but just not in Grand Slams or on the tour." Finally, the great player thanked all and vowed to never leave tennis in his retirement announcement.

The Cricket fraternity was understandably moved by this news and all came to a farewell as a career with 20 Grand Slams came to an end.

Let’s look at the Cricketing fraternity's reaction to Roger Federer’s retirement.
