Here is how fans have slammed Cristiano Ronaldo for claiming his teammate's goal in their World Cup clash against Uruguay

On 29 November 2022, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal sealed their place in the next round of the ongoing FIFA World Cup. They had a thrilling start to their campaign by defeating Ghana 3-2 in the opening fixture. So, all eyes were on them when they took on Uruguay in Lusail Stadium. Meanwhile, Ronaldo also had his first goal against Ghana. He managed to score a penalty from the spot.

But, before the World Cup, he made headlines, courtesy of an explosive interview about his former club, Manchester United. He claimed that the club betrayed him and Ronaldo also made huge claims about the head coach, Erik ten Hag, and club owners. As a result, Manchester United issued a statement on 22 November which read that Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. The club thanked him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford.

After that, Ronaldo also issued a statement that read: “Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early. I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future." So, fans were eager to see how Ronaldo kicked off this tournament for his country. He did not disappoint as Ronaldo scored a penalty against Ghana. Against Uruguay, both teams tried hard to break the deadlock in the first half. But, that half ended 0-0. 

Then, in the 54th minute, Portugal took a lead as Bruno Fernandes scored tha goal. But, Cristiano Ronaldo claimed it as he thought that he had a depth of touches to the ball that was delivered by his teammate into the box. The Portuguese superstar also celebrated his goal. But, later it got confirmed that it was Bruno’s goal, not Cristiano's. Eventually, Bruno scored a penalty also in the match and Portugal won the match 2-0. After seeing such action from Ronaldo, fans were not happy and they started to blame him.
