On 24 November 2022, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal locked horns with Ghana in the ongoing FIFA World Cup. It was a Group H encounter which took place in Stadium 974. However, it was the tournament opener for Portugal and they managed to win it. They defeated Ghana with a scoreline of 3-2.

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score in five different World Cups

However, after scoring in that clash, Ronaldo became the first player to score in five different World Cups. However, he made headlines before the World Cup due to his explosive interview about Manchester United. As a result, the club decided to part ways with the Portuguese superstar. 

On 22 November 2022, Manchester United confirmed the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo. The official statement from the club read: "Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well in the future. Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch."        

After that, Ronaldo also issued a statement. “Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early. I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future." Cristiano Ronaldo concluded.
