In a historic decision, the Indian government led by Prime Minister Narendra Madi, introduced the revolutionary constitutional amendment bill to reserve 33 per cent seats for women in Lok Sabha and the assemblies of the states as well. This bill has been under consideration for the last 27 years. The discussion on this bill took place in the newly built parliament building.
Finally, the government passed this Women’s Reservation Bill in the new parliament building on Monday, September 18. The bill has been named Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal came up with the bill in the lower house of the parliament.
Meanwhile, the Indian sporting fraternity, including the renowned female sportspersons from cricket, boxing, and other sports, lauded the government’s decision to ensure equality and strengthen women with this Reservation Bill.

"This bill is going to be passed... We felt happy that prominent athletes were called (on this day). The women's reservation is important for women's empowerment," said the former Parliamentarian and veteran Indian boxer Mary Kom.

Subsequently, the former captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, Mithali Raj also joined the list, and praised the government, alongside PM Narendra Modi for this effort to ensure the growth and development of women in Indian society.
“I congratulate our Prime Minister and our government on the Women's Reservation Bill. With 33 per cent (reservation), the participation of women in governance will increase... It is a great move... We are all very happy,” said Mithali to ANI.
Apart from this, a former star Indian athlete and one of the Indian medal winners World Championships, Anju Bobby George also heaped praise on PM Modi and his government. She called it a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity for the women in India.
“As a woman of India, getting to witness something like this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I am grateful to PM Modi for initiating a discussion on such important issues,” said Anju Bobby George.
