The ODI World Cup 2023 will be solely hosted by India from October 5 to November 19. The opener, which is a rematch of the previous edition’s final between England and New Zealand will take place in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The world’s largest cricket stadium will also a few key matches in the World Cup including the fiercely contested rivalries between India and Pakistan; and England and Australia. Moreover, the final will also be held in the spectacular Narendra Modi Stadium of Ahmedabad.

However, Pakistan’s participation in the ODI World Cup 2023 is still in doubt. The Prime Minister of Pakistan held a special meeting to decide on the same and a few more changes to the World Cup schedule were suggested. Amid all of the logistical issues, there is a new problem emerging in the City of Joy, Kolkata. The Eden Garden in Kolkata which was decided to host the clash between Pakistan and England has reported concerns over security deployment from Kolkata Police. Notably, the match coincides with one of Bengal’s primary festivals, ‘Kali Pujo.’

Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with approval from the government of Pakistan sent a security delegation to access the World Cup venues in India. Following this, a new schedule is set to be released. However, there has not been a definitive update on the said schedule. The issue is the same with the marquee clash between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad. It coincides with the Hindu festival of ‘Navaratri’ which is celebrated with great pump and joy in Gujarat.

There was a date change decided however, having the game a day prior on 14 October as opposed to the earlier date of 15 October will not be feasible for Pakistan because they’ll play New Zealand on November 12. They’ll only have one day to recuperate and travel to a different location. The PCB has objected to the same and the decision is yet to follow. Notably, the two teams will first clash in the Asia Cup ODI 2023 before they move on to the ODI World Cup 2023.
