On 23 October 2022, India kicked off their 20-20 World Cup campaign in Melbourne against arch-rivals Pakistan. In the last edition of the 20-20 World Cup, India lost to Pakistan by 10 wickets. So, fans were waiting for a better show from the Men in Blue. Speaking of the match, Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked the Men in Green to bat first.
While batting first, they scored 159 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. Iftikhar Ahmed scored 51 runs off 34 balls, at a strike rate of 150. Along with him, Shan Masood scored 52* runs off 42 balls. For India, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya took three wickets each.

In reply, skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul came out to open the innings. But, they were struggling badly by losing four wickets for 31 runs. Then, Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli stitched a partnership of 113 runs. On the last delivery of the innings, India clinched a thriller at the MCG by four wickets. Virat Kohli was the player of the match for his 82* runs off 53 balls, including six fours and four sixes. It was a great knock from the former Indian skipper and the whole cricketing world came up to acknowledge that.
However, Sourav Ganguly also came up with a tweet after team India’s victory. It reads: “Congratulations to the team for a fantastic win and a great start to the world cup @bcci.” In the tweet, he did not mention the star batter or acknowledge his innings against Pakistan. Seeing that, fans came up to slam the former Indian Cricket Board president. Recently, he got sacked from the Board as Roger Binny became the new Board president. However, there have been several reports that both Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly do not have a great relationship between them in recent years. So, fans were happy to see him sacked as Virat Kohli made a fantastic comeback.
