India and South Africa was due to play against each other for the series-deciding game of the five-match T20I series on Sunday. Prior to the start of the game, the series was leveled at 2-2. The hosts come back strongly before being trailing by 0-2 at one stage. The stage was set for a cliffhanger ending to the series. It also provided an opportunity for the Men In Blue to win their first T20I series against the Proteas.

However, this couldn't happen as the game was abandoned due to persistent rain. Notably, the match started less than an hour late due to rain. One over was deducted from both sides which meant that the match was a 19-over affair. Keshav Maharaj-led side won the toss and elected to field first.

Maharaj bought himself on but was plundered for two sixes by Ishan Kishan and the opposition scored 19 runs in the over. Lungi Ngidi came in to bowl a one-run over and took the big wicket of Ishan Kishan with a dipping slower one.

Two overs later, Ngidi took the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad with the same delivery but the mode of dismissal was different. Gaikwad was caught at mid-on by Dwaine Pretorius. The right-hander tried to play the lofted on-drive but the ball once again dipped on him. Skipper Rishabh Pant came and opened his account before the rain returned.

The covers came back again and persistent rain meant the match was abandoned.
