Every year, every fan looks forward to seeing MS Dhoni in the yellow of Chennai in the Indian T20 League. The veteran cricketer has been with the Chennai team since its inception and is their most devoted member. He retired from international cricket a while ago but has continued to play in the tournament. Over the years, he has led the team to incredible success and has amassed a huge fan following for the yellow army. MS Dhoni has also led the team to four championships.

Except for the 2020 season, Chennai has made the playoffs every year. However, the Chennai team, along with Rajasthan, was suspended for two years, in 2016 and 2017, for suspected spot-fixing incidents. Dhoni spent two seasons with the now-defunct Pune franchise. Chennai made a return in 2018 and went on to win the title.

Michael Hussey, the team's batting coach, recently disclosed that MS Dhoni was quite emotional when Chennai was inducted back in Indian T20 League. He said the team's skipper was in tears when he was giving the speech after returning in the yellow of Chennai.

"I think there’s not one particular memory but we see these championship-winning photos on the wall… I think probably the 2018 season. We were out of the competition for two years. We came back and I remember MS giving a speech right at the start of the season," Hussey told former Australian opener, Matthew Hayden, in a ‘Super Reunion’ video shared by Chennai.

"He actually started tearing; tears were coming out of his eyes and I remember thinking, ‘Something special is happening here," he added.

He described the team's comeback season a "special one." He claimed that simply thinking about the experience give him goosebumps. The win in the 2018 season was Chennai's third title. "That was a special season. It gives you goosebumps just thinking about what happened that year. It was almost like it was meant to be after coming back to the IPL. MS played unbelievably well throughout the season. It was just a special time," Hussey said.
