England pacer Ollie Robinson has an ongoing verbal rivalry with the Australian media as well as some former Australian cricketers. He was on the receiving end of hard and fast-lined criticism from the former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting and the former Australian batting great Matthey Hayden.
His comments and that unpleasant send-off to the veteran Australian opener Usman Khawaja during the ongoing Ashes series ignited a lot of anger in the Australian media and among the former Aussie cricketers. Although Robinson had a sort of redemption as he was a part of the England XI that ended up winning the Headingley Test to with a margin of 3 wickets to keep their hopes alive in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the pacer has come up with a fresh attack on the Australians in his latest column for Wisden while showering praises on his teammate and star England pacer Mark Wood. Robinson felt the Wood’s pace completely bothered and outplayed the Australian batters and affected them psychologically as well.
“I’ve never seen a spell like Woody’s on that first morning. I was at mid-off to start with, and first few balls, I thought, ‘Jeez, that looks pretty quick…’ He carried on through the over, finished the job, and then someone ran past me from slip and said that they were standing past my bowling mark, which is 22-and-a-half meters back!” wrote Robinson in his column for Wisden.
Here's what Ollie Robinson said further
“The fact he was consistently getting the shape and movement on it as well – at that speed – was just unbelievable bowling. It was just amazing to watch and be a part of. Though not so amazing for the batters, I’d imagine. Every batter during that spell was doing the same thing. It was awkwardly fast and awkwardly uncomfortable, and as a batter, you’re trying to convey that you’re fine when you’re really not,” he added.
Both, Robinson and Wood could be in action for England in the fourth of the five-match Ashes 2023. Both teams will be locking horns in the penultimate Ashes 2023 Test at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday, the 19th of July 2023.
