'He's such a humble guy' - Brendon McCullum hails Rinku Singh for his debut international innings

After an amazing performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Kolkata Knight Rider (KKR) star middle-order batter Rinku Singh received his maiden international call and made his T20I debut in the ongoing T20I series against Ireland. Rinku didn’t get to bat in the 1st T20I but he batted in the 2nd match and displayed a magnificent batting performance.

Rinku scored 38 runs off just 21 balls which included 2 fours and 3 sixes. Meanwhile, former legendary New Zealand cricketer and England’s Test coach Brendon McCullum recently talked about Rinku and heaped praise on him for the struggles he did to achieve whatever he has now. McCullum has worked closely with Rinku during his tenure as the head coach of KKR. 

"Yes, (it's) really pleasing, because I've seen the effort that he's put in..the scrap and the fight. It's never come easy to Rinku. He's had to work for it. Because he's such a humble guy and a wonderful team man. He's often easy to overlook, but what we've seen from Rinku in the past season and a half of the IPL, and now the opportunity he's getting for India is that he is extremely talented." McCullum was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

Rinku scored 474 runs in the 14 matches he played in IPL 2023 at an impressive average of 59.25 which included 4 half-centuries. McCullum further talked about him and said that Rinku has the ability to do special things and wished him all the best for his bright future. The former cricketer also said that Rinku is a great character and a great human being as well.

"He has a game which he belongs at that level and he can do special things and I wish him all the best. He's a great character and a great human being and a very, very talented player. I'm sure the world will enjoy his story," he added.
