Former Indian chief selector Kris Srikkanth has come up with a big statement while talking about star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s role for India in ODI World Cup 2023. Srikkanth felt that Jadeja could deliver heroics similar to the ones Yuvraj Singh delivered during the ODI World Cup 2011, 12 years back.
“We had a fantastic side, very well led by (MS) Dhoni, too, and that time we have Yuvraj Singh. I believe Ravindra Jadeja will do what Yuvraj Singh did in the 2011 World Cup,” said Srikkanth to India Today.
Srikkanth reckons that it would be very crucial for India if the all-rounders, including the likes of Jadeja and Axar Patel, produce some amazing performances both with the bat and the ball. "I believe Jadeja, the Axar Patels of the world, these people will play a very crucial role if India has to win this 2023 World Cup,” he added later.
The statement and the hope Srikkanth showed in Ravindra Jadeja drew a lot of contrasting reactions on social media from Indian cricket fans. They immediately took to Twitter where some of the fans felt that it would be better not to keep unnecessary hope with the players.
Here’s how fans reacted:
ICT se hope rkhna hi faaltu hai😭😭😭😭 hope rhoge to koi bhi perform nhi krega

Yes, India need to assign him no. 4 position as he is the only left handed batsman in XI plus has experience to Play in the middle and as well good in running between the wickets..

Hopefully he will do something great for us, but Yuvi is one and unique!
Even I feel the same . Why can't jadeja be our no 4 for wc in the absence of sreyas Iyer .He is too good a batsmen to play at no 4 . He can bowl 10 overs too.

Gives the captain the freedom of having 6 bowling options easily
Yuvi was a batting all-rounder whereas jaddu is more a bowling all-rounder. Jaddu has the potential to be the game changer for India if the wickets offer more spin than expected.

At his best yuvraj was far bigger match winner than jaddu atleast on crucial icc knockout matches. Jaddu is best all rounder for us now and hope he makes me wrong.

I would say Jadeja's bowling performance will decide our fate in the WC

Never seen his prediction come out true.... This time pray for God to prediction come true

India then had Raina, Yuvi, Dhoni in middle order. No one is near to these in current combination.

Both r different. Currently no one is there to replace Yuvi.

The 1983 World Cup-winning opener also spoke about the importance of the performance of the all-rounders in the upcoming ODI World Cup. He also compared the same to the performances of the all-rounders for Team India in the ODI World Cup 2011.
“In Indian conditions, some of the wickets will turn a lot. It won’t be bouncy like in Australia or moving conditions like in England. India are used to home conditions, and that is one of the biggest advantages for the Indians. In the 2011 World Cup, you saw a lot of all-rounders coming into play,” stated Srikkanth.
Notably, India will lock horns with Australia in their campaign opener during the ODI World Cup 2023. Both teams will play this match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, the 8th of October 2023.
