The veteran Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has come with a fiery statement while hitting back at Shahid Afridi for his comment on the former recalling an incident involving Babar Azam. Afridi recalled this incident from a game in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). It was the moment Amir happened to throw the ball towards the Pakistan skipper and his former teammate, Babar Azam in a sense of frustration after a boundary.
It was the match between Karachi Kings and Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi in the early months of this year during PSL 2023. Afridi said a few months back he also spoke to Amir regarding his behaviour with Babar Azam.
"If you want to play for Pakistan, you have to play alongside Babar only. Will you be able to look him in the eye? Can you play under his captaincy? Focus on your performance, control your aggression, and go back home peacefully," said Afridi while recalling the incident involving Both Amir and Babar.
Although Mohammad Amir said in an interview that he didn’t get any kind of message from Afridi in the context of that particularly heated incident between him and the Zalmi skipper Babar Azam.
"I received his message but this wasn't it. He only praised my bowling and enquired about my injury. But the things like 'how will you face Babar'... this wasn't in his texts at all. What harm have I caused Babar? or vice-versa? I found it very weird. I don't know what he was thinking when he said that. I guess he speaks a little quickly so he might have mistakenly said that,” said Amir as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.
Here's what Mohammad Amir said further
"Babar and I have a mutual understanding and respect. He never bad-mouthed me and the same from my side as well. But the public thinks we are enemies. It was never like that," he added later.
Notably, a few of the media reports have learned that Mohammad Amir might feature in the Indian Premier League 2024 once he gets British citizenship. But still, confirmation is awaited from both sides on Amir’s appearance in the cash-rich Indian franchise tournament.
