'I get the feeling I'm a...' - Ex-Australia skipper Allan Border makes a shocking revelation on his diagnosis from Parkinson's disease

Former Australian skipper Allan Border has left everyone in the cricketing fraternity in shock with a revelation on his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. The 1987 World Cup-winning Australian skipper said he went through a diagnosis from Parkinson’s disease seven years back in the year 2016 but he wanted to hide it from the public.

Notably, this is a disease that is considered to have no cure, it usually results in progressive brain damage, the other symptoms are loss of muscle control, tremors, rigid nature of muscles, and movement getting slow gradually with time.

"I'm a pretty private person and I didn't want people to feel sorry for me. Whether people care you don't know. But I know there'll come a day when people will notice," said Border to News Corp.

I get the feeling I'm a hell of a lot better off than most: Allan Border

"I get the feeling I'm a hell of a lot better off than most. At the moment, I'm not scared, not about the immediate future anyway. I'm 68 (in July). If I make 80, that'll be a miracle. I've got a doctor friend and I said if I make 80 that'll be a miracle. He said, 'That will be a miracle,'" he added later.

Later, Border went on to sound a bit practical while talking about the possibilities of life within him. "No way am I going to get another hundred, that's for sure," Border said. “I'll just slip slowly into the west,” stated Border.

Apart from that, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc also interacted with the reporters at the Lord’s in London; he also spoke about Border’s health and wished excellent health to the former cricketing legend.

"It's sad to hear (that) of one of the greats of Australian cricket, a big character in the world of cricket, and our wishes go out to AB and to the family as well,” said Starc to the reporters.

Allan Border had appeared in 156 Tests for Australia and also held a record for the highest Test runs. He finished his illustrious career with 11,174 runs with 27 centuries to his name.
