Former Indian chief selector MSK Prasad has come up with praises for the Indian selectors for picking the veteran all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin in India’s ODI squad. Notably, Ashwin has also been included in India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia just before the commencement of the ODI World Cup 2023, in India.
Last time, it 21 months back on January 21, 2022, when the Chennai all-rounder played his last ODI against South Africa in Paarl. He is also expected to be a part of India’s playing XI in the ODI series against Australia, starting on Friday, September 22 with the first ODI in Mohali’s PCA IS Bindra Stadium.
"He will be very useful and that too in Indian conditions." - MSK Prasad on Ravichandran Ashwin
Meanwhile, Ashwin has inclusion also attracted a lot of eyeballs in the Indian cricket fraternity, including the former cricketers and the experts of the game. Earlier, Irfan Pathan expressed his dissent over including Ashwin in the squad of big-pressure assignments even after being out of action in ODI cricket for a long time.
On the other hand, former selector MSK Prasad spoke completely different Irfan Pathan’s opinion on Ravichandran Ashwin’s selection in the white-ball squad.
“I have been saying for a long time that Ashwin will be very useful and that too in Indian conditions. He has scalped almost close to 500 wickets across all the formats in India. Nowadays, all the teams have 3-4 left-handed batters and he will be very deadly against the lefties,” said Prasad to Star Sports.
“I hope he does well against Australia in the ODI series and gets picked in the playing XI during the ODI World Cup, good luck Ashwin, good luck Team India,” he added later.
Speaking of India’s run in the ODI World Cup 2023 in their own backyard, they will play their campaign opener against the five-time champions Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 8.
