Pakistan Cricket is currently going through a lot of conundrums within its management, be it the appointment of a coach or the coordination of players with the existing management. A lot of former cricketers have lashed out at Pakistan Cricket Board for appointing Mickey Arthur as an ‘online coach’. The list included the likes of former skippers Shahid Afridi and Misbah ul Haq.
In a recent line of statements, former selector and support staff member Sikander Bakht has also come up with some shocking claims regarding the coaching structure of Pakistan. He went on to accuse the players of misbehaving with the coach of their own national team.
Furthermore, Bakht also felt that the Pakistan players are scared of foreign coaches and that’s why they respect them.
"I had once tried to tell a Pakistan player when I was involved with the Pakistan team. He said, 'You have just played 26 Tests for Pakistan. I have played 40. You are trying to teach me? I am saying this on oath'. This is the approach of players. Do you think a cricketer can go and say something to Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Shadab Khan? The players behave well with foreign coaches. Take Mickey Arthur, he hasn't played a single international game but he is good with man management. Because he's a foreigner, they are scared of him," said Bakht to Geo News.
There are so many difficulties and pressure there - Sikander Bakht
Later on, the veteran of 26 Tests and 27 ODIs said that he pray every day not to be given any job in the Pakistan Cricket Board just because of the attitude of players.
"We have had a lot of coaches from Pakistan. Be it Javed Miandad, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mohammad Yousuf – but they couldn't handle it. I will take an example of a player without taking his name, who works with me on Geo. He told me that he prays every day that he is not given any role with PCB. There are so many difficulties and pressure there that I pray in every Namaz that I won't be given a job with PCB," he added later.
