The 18th match between Bangalore and Mumbai saw a major controversy. Virat Kohli was given out and when he referred it upstairs, it seemed as if the decision would be reversed, and would favour the batter. However, everybody including Kohli were shocked when the third umpire felt that there wasn't enough evidence to overturn the decision.
This occurred during the first ball of the 18th over. While Dewald Brewis was bowling his first over to the 33-year-old, there was seemingly an inside edge, which then hit the pad. Yet, the umpire gave him out LBW. Upon reviewing, the third umpire felt that the ball hit the bat and pad simultaneously.
Due to which, he didn't ask for the decision to be overturned. Kohli himself wasn't too happy over the same as he was seen furiously walking back. This didn't sit well with the fans either as they went on to criticize the umpires. It is to be noted that Kohli was batting on 48, and missed out on a well-deserved half-century.
Even Iceland Cricket felt that the decision should have been overturned. They took to Twitter to express their opinion, and stated that every TV umpire should be able to make the correct decision. They also volunteered the BCCI to send some trained umpires.
"It's not easy for on field umpires to detect inside edges or whether ball hit bat or pad first. But every TV umpire should be able to make the right call with the benefit of slow motion replays and technology like UltraEdge. @BCCI We have trained umpires ready to fly over." read the Tweet of Iceland Cricket. It became viral in no time.

Nevertheless, Bangalore still ended up winning the game rather comfortably. They chased the total with nine balls to spare. Anuj Rawat won the player of the match award for his superb 66 off 47 deliveries. This was the Faf du Plessis-led side's third win of the Indian T20 league 2022.
