Iga Swiatek becomes the first Polish women to win the US Open

World Number One Iga Swiatek created history in the US Open as he became the first woman from Poland to win the tournament. In the final, she faced world number five Ons Jabeur from the United States. It was a one-sided final for the Polish player as he won by 6-2, 7-6 (5) in Arthur Ashe Stadium. With this, she now has three major titles to her name this year and seventh overall this year.

After the win, Iga said that she wasn't had any major expectations ahead of the tournament. She revealed that she is proud and surprised at the same time. The 21-year-old further added that she can make her doubts go away after winning the title.

"It's something that I wasn't expecting, for sure. It's also like a confirmation for me that the sky's the limit,'' said Swiatek

"I'm proud. Also surprised little bit.''

"I feel like on court, I can just do my job,'' Swiatek said, "and I'm happy about it, that I kind of can make these doubts go away.''

Notably, she is the second player after recently retired Serena Williams to win seven titles in a year. In 2014, Williams won seven titles. Also, Swiatek became the first woman after Angelique Kerber in 2016 to win multiple majors in the same year. Swiatek has been the No. 1 player since April this year.

Swiatek really set the bar high: Ons Jabeur

On the other hand, Jabeur, who lost the US Open final, praised her opponent after the game. The runner-up of the tournament said that Jabeur has set the bar very high for the other players which is great for the sport.

"She's really set the bar very high. It's great for our sport,'' said Jabeur, a 28-year-old from Tunisia who will rise to No. 2 in the rankings on Monday.

Talking about Ons, she was born in Tunisia and represents the United States. Also, she has won two singles titles this year.
