The ongoing US Open 2022 has seen a lot of highs and lows. The best part about this tournament is that low-ranked players are breaking the norms. There are quite a few of them who have upset the high-ranked players and ended their dreams. The fans were in shock to see the legends getting crashed out by their lower-ranked counterparts.

On the other hand, there was one controversy that also surrounded the tournament. A famous player, who is having a tough time on the court, was lined up for his misconduct.   1. Carlos Alcaraz win against Jannik Sinner

In a quarterfinal game of the tournament, Spain's Carlos Alcaraz stunned the world as he beat Jannik Sinner to qualify for the semis. The former won the game by 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-7(0), 7-5, 6-3. However, this game wasn't easy for him in terms of time.

The game was played for more than five hours and at somewhere around 2:50 AM, the teenager won the game. With this win, the Spanish player's hopes of winning his maiden Grand Slam and claiming the number one ranking have gone up.

2. Frances Tiafoe gives up on cookies and candies for the tournament

Recently, Frances Tiafoe made headlines for beating Rafael Nadal in the US Open 2022. However, readers might not know this but the former gave up cookies and candies for the tournament. Cookies and Candies are Frances' favorite appetite.

His coach had said that he used to miss breakfasts and consumed a lot of sweets. However, he made a sacrifice and is now qualified for the semis. Notably, the American is the first player after Andy Roddick in 2006 to make it this far.

3. Nick Krygios fined for smashing racquets

The Australian player was fined $14,000 after he smashed two racquets on the ground. This happened after he lost the quarterfinal to Russia's Karen Khachanov. His total fine for the ongoing calendar year is $32,500.

The money will be automatically deducted from what he earned during the singles ($445,000) and doubles ($28,200). This year hasn't been kind to him as he hasn't been able to win a single Grand Slam title.

4. Iga Swiatek reached her maiden US Open semi-final

World number one Iga Swiatek will be making her maiden appearance in the US Open semi-final. She beat Jessica Pegula of the United States by 6-3, 7-6 (7/4). However, luck was also in the favor of the French Open champion.

The quarter-final between Iga and Jessica was filled with mistakes. There were 13 breaks of serve and a combined 61 unforced errors. Iga will now face Aryna Sabalenka in the semif-final.

5. Aryna Sabalenka reaches her second consecutive semi-final

Belarus' Aryna Sabalenka beat  Czech Karolina Pliskova by 6-1, 7-6(4) to reach her second straight US Open semifinal. With this win, Aryna asserted her dominance against Karolina as the former beat the same twice last year.

Nothing went right for 2016 finalist Pliskova during the first set as she racked up 15 unforced errors and five double faults in 28 minutes. But the Czech's form improved considerably in the second set as she fended off the only break point she faced in the eighth game.
