Indian Premier League 2023 is underway and the current season of the tournament has witnessed a lot of youngsters and uncapped players proving their worth for their respective franchise teams. This list of young lads includes the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ayush Badoni, Nehal Wadhera, Tilak Varma, and a lot of other players in different teams.
Meanwhile, the star Punjab Kings wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has impressed a lot with his batting performances in the middle order while taking charge for his team. Jitesh has scored 260 runs in the 11 innings of the 11 matches he played so far in the tournament with an impressive outstanding strike rate of 160.49.
Notably, he was also in a brilliant touch during the last season of the Indian Premier League in 2022. He carried on his batting form with amazing consistency in the ongoing season as well. A lot of cricket experts went on to say that Jitesh could make it to the national squad of Team India very soon in the near future.
Apart from all this, former Indian all-rounder and one of the greatest players who appeared in IPL, Suresh Raina feels that the Maharashtra-born wicketkeeper-batter is already under the notice of the national team selectors.
He's really impressed everyone with the way he's batting - Suresh Raina on Jitesh Sharma
“He's playing brilliantly in the middle-order so far. He's played some important cameos. He's an aggressive player, he had already been a part of the Indian team but yes, he can be a great middle-order player. His wicketkeeping skills are good. He's really impressed everyone with the way he's batting. I'm sure the selectors would look at him again. His hitting abilities are really good, and you will see him a lot more in the future,” said Suresh Raina to Hindustan Times during an interaction with the journalists.
Interestingly, Jitesh made his first appearance in the Indian Premier League last year for the Punjab Kings after spending a short span of time with the five-time champions Mumbai Indians almost six to seven years back in 2016-2017.
