Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has come up with praising remarks for the former Indian skipper and batting superstar, Virat Kohli. Sehwag also compared Kohli’s stature in the team to that of the former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar. Meanwhile, the former blistering opener also said that players will be looking ahead to win this world cup for Virat Kohli.

"We played that World Cup for Tendulkar. If we won the World Cup, it would have been a great exit for Sachin paaji. Virat Kohli is the same now. Everybody will look to win the World Cup for him. He always gives more than 100 percent,” said Sehwag at the schedule-launch event for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Later on, this statement from Virender Sehwag drew a lot of contrasting reactions on social media. Some of the fans questioned if Sehwag is considering an individual is bigger than winning the World Cup for the country; whereas a few others also reacted with different opinions on the micro-blogging site Twitter.

Here’s how fans reacted:

Furthermore, Virender Sehwag also talked about the possibilities for Virat Kohli in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 and the probable mindset the latter could go ahead with.

"I think Virat Kohli is also looking to this World Cup. 100,000 people will watch you at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Virat knows how the pitches will behave. I am sure he will score many runs and do his best to win the World Cup for India,” stated Sehwag.

Apart from this, Sehwag also explained the pressure on Team India considering the high-octane clash against Pakistan in the group stage of the ODI World Cup.

"I feel that now India handles the pressure that is why they win whereas Pakistan have a burden that they haven't won against India. In the 1990s, they were good at dealing with pressure but after 2000, India soak it better. If any player says that they don't feel pressure, I don't think it's right. We used to say it too but at the end of the day, we know it's an India vs Pakistan game and emotions run high,” he added later.
