In a recent piece of news, the media reports have revealed that the former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar has applied for the post of chief selector of Team India. Notably, the position is vacant since the former Indian chief selector Chetan Sharma stepped down after an infamous ‘sting operation’ episode.

Subsequently, the news of Ajit Agarjar applying for the chief selector drew a lot of reactions and responses from Indian cricket fans on social media. Fans immediately took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and mentioned a couple of things about the Indian Cricket Board and their management of the national side.

Here’s how fans reacted:

Talking about cricket, Ajit Agarkar represented India in international cricket for a period of almost nine years. He made his international debut on the 1st of April in 1998 against Australia in Kochi ODI. Later on, he appeared in his first-ever Test match of his career on the 7th of October in 1998 against Zimbabwe in Harare Test.

Agarkar played 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and 4 T20Is in his international career for India. In these matches, he scalped 58 Test wickets, 288 ODI wickets, and 3 T20I wickets to his name. Apart from this, Agarkar also showed a few heroic batting performances including his famous Test century at the Lord’s alongside 3 half-centuries in the ODI cricket.

Coming back to Team India, they will now be playing in the two-match Test series followed by a three-match ODI series and five-match T20I series against West Indies. The selectors had already announced the squad of Team India for the two Tests and three ODIs on the West Indies tour.

The team will be playing under the captaincy of regular skipper Rohit Sharma in the Tests and ODI series. Meanwhile, the senior Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara had been dropped from the Test squad. It also drew a lot of criticism from former Indian cricketers and the experts of the game.

The series will kick off with the first Test between India and the hosts West Indies on the 12th of July next month.
