India to have new white-ball captain shortly - Reports

Team India are currently busy playing the two-match Test series in Bangladesh. After the semi-final exit from the 20-20 World Cup, the Men in Blue went to New Zealand when all senior players took a rest. Hardik Pandya led the team to a 1-0 victory in the three-match T20I series. But, they lost the ODI series under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan.

However, after the 20-20 World Cup, there were reports that the Indian Cricket Board might look to appoint Hardik Pandya as the new captain in the White ball formats. Under his captaincy, team India have done well so far whenever he got an opportunity to show his leadership skills. Now, a source close to the Board has confirmed that they are in the thought process to give him the white-ball captaincy.

As quoted by saying, the source said that they are planning to give Hardik Pandya the white-ball captaincy shortly. The source said: "We have this plan and we discussed it with Hardik. He has asked for some days for a response. No decision has been taken in this regard but we are currently in the thought process to give him the white-ball captaincy, let us see how things go further."

Speaking about Hardik Pandya, he impressed everyone when he won the last edition of the Indian T20 League in his maiden attempt as a skipper for the Gujarat franchise. Then, he led India in the T20I series in Ireland, which they won 2-0. He was the vice-captain in the T20I series against West Indies, which India won 4-1. Recently, he won the T20I series in New Zealand by 1-0 as the skipper.      

However, he also performed well as a skipper for the franchise in the Indian T20 League 2022. He scored 487 runs in 15 games at an average of 44.27 and four half-centuries. Pandya also took eight wickets throughout the tournament.
